One Room Challenge Fall 2019 Project Coast to Coast: Holy Sheet it’s Week Five!

HOLY SHEET!

How can it be WEEK FIVE already?? I’m sure you’re waiting to see all the amazing things I have done since last week’s post.

WEEK ONE || WEEK TWO || WEEK THREE || WEEK FOUR || WEEK FIVE || WEEK 6

Well, let me tell you. I got sheets. And that’s it, folks! See ya next week!

Just kidding. Sorta.

I got these weird, Pepto colored sheets. I don’t know why. I have been struggling with the bedding in here, and it’s a bedroom, so not having the bedding is kind of an issue don’t you think? I do have some bedding, but none of it seems to be working for me. It’s working for Ozzy though.

Ok ok… I did some other things. I got the drapery rod installed and the drapes hung. I got the blue velvet sofa from the apartment into the room, and we got the dresser and the TV from the apartment as well. But we had a boo boo.

We broke the 50″  TV! And it sucks, since it really is practically brand new. So now we have to add a new TV to the list.

Don’t forget, the links and images in my posts may contain affiliate links and I must disclose that as an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. That just means that if you click on an item and buy something, I may make a small commission from the company- but at no additional cost to you. Your purchases might help me afford to do more One Room Challenges, so thank you!

The good news is that TV’s are not as expensive as they used to be, and there are so many options. You can get a hi-def 4K SmartTV for a pretty good price. Smart TVs are great if you have good wifi and don’t need to use a cable box (for you cable cutters out there). My husband used his Hulu account to get “regular” channels on his TV in the apartment and didn’t pay for cable.

Here are some options:

You can go up or down in size, and the price will vary.

What else?

Let’s see. I went down the rabbit hole that is IKEA. I got some things for the kitchen, some towels, and other random things. As is the usual when one goes to IKEA.

But the funny thing is, I only got one pillow cover and some bug prints for the ORC room. And what I was originally going to IKEA for were out of stock so I didn’t even get those items!

I did find some really cool fabric that was under $9 a yard so if you’re thinking about doing the wall treatment like I showed you in WEEK 3, you should check out their options!

Oh yeah, and I did a craft project with feathers. Hmm. you’ll have to wait until next week on that one too.

What’s left?

I hung the bug prints, but my kids don’t like them. WHATEVER. I decided not to show you because if you don’t like them either, I don’t want to know until after I’m done, if ever. Or maybe I’ll change them before next week’s reveal.

I need better night stands, the leftovers from the old house just aren’t working in here. Size and practicality. I want to have a little more storage, maybe a shelf for people to put their phones and still have room for some necessities.

Still not sure about the lamps. I dug out some old lamps and spray painted one and I hate it. I have these little lamps from my husband’s apartment in there right now.

I have to decide which mirror I’m going to use (recycling from my “collection”) and get that on the wall.

I need to figure out what I’m doing with accessories and the little details. Add some plants, maybe.

And, obviously the bedding. I definitely screwed up all my plans. Or really, it was the lack of having a real plan at the BEGINNING screwed me up. It’s the number one thing I tell people they are doing wrong when they attempt to decorate or design a space. Don’t just randomly get something here, and then something there. You can waste a lot of time and money, as well as make many mistakes or rush into bad decisions when doing things piece meal. Including things as simple as paint, which is never as simple as you think. It drives me nuts when people ask me for a wall color for a room when they have no idea what else is going to go in that room. (By the way, wall color comes LAST not first so if you have been thinking the other way, just stop it now.)

What have you done that you’ve regretted or struggled with? Tell me your design mistakes in the comments!

I didn’t really have time to lock into a plan. I had a basic vision, but didn’t know if any of my pieces in my head were available or going to work out. Plus I have been distracted trying to figure out what to do in the rest of the house. Since neighbors keep “popping by” to introduce themselves, I have felt the need to get those rooms they actually can see cleaned up and boxes put away. And maybe swap out some of these lights. Remember last week, I asked what you guys thought of some of these relatively inexpensive options?

Well, some of you asked about where to buy some of these so I have linked them all. Click the pic above to see them all in one place.

Anyway, HOLY SHEET!

  1. I enjoyed reading this article. It was straight to the point of decorating woes but with a bit of humor in there too. I admit to changing up a few things here at the end. But overall, I had a solid plan in place from the beginning. Otherwise, I’d probably not have a room design ready by next Wednesday. Keep going lady!

  2. Ha! You nailed that title, love it. Sorry about the tv. I know your mad skills will pull this together and the reveal will blow us all away. As far as the bug prints, big fan! Wait until you see what I have incorporated into my room. It will make your bug prints look tame!

  3. Love it…and IKEA really is a rabbit hole, isn’t it?! Ozzy looks perfect with the new room – I’m not so sure he’s gonna move over for guests, he looks pretty attached to that bed! Looking forward to the reveal next week to see what all you decided on! And yes, I did get here from the email, so whatever you did worked!

  4. Don’t lose your sheet.
I’m only just now catching up, but I want you to know I’m not really picky about bedding. 400 thread count is fine. If you could have a power block and cord for my iPhone, that would be nice. I lose them on the regular.

  5. LOVE the title of this post! And you are so far ahead of the game than you think. I can’t wait to see your room!! Or is it rooms w/an S since you just moved in.

Wishing you all the best in your new space. And thx so much for your support for my ORC room. It’s crazy here in the last week!!!!

  6. Holy sheet is the best title! And I like the Pepto sheets but I’m still in awe of the walls. I haven’t any doubt this room will be fab, you had me at feathers and blue velvet sofa!! Can’t wait for the big reveal! Go Ninja go
