Over the Hump! ORC Spring 2019: Project Get Clean Week 3

We are supposed to be over the hump. HOLY CRAP, BATMAN.

The halfway point is officially here. I only have THREE WEEKS until the reveal and I’m starting to sweat. We are supposed to be much closer to being done. The photographer has to get in here in about 10 days and I can’t reschedule her, so it’s really not 3 weeks to actually finish. YIKES.

WE ARE NOWHERE NEAR BEING OVER THE HUMP.

I am behind on everything, including writing this post. I went away over the weekend with my husband and some friends (well, new to me friends). I definitely needed this time away.

I brought my laptop to work on, even though I was supposed to be relaxing. I checked in with the contractor a few times, and had my brain hurt, not from drinking in the pool but from some weird mishap with a lighting order. The short story on that is my credit card keeps getting charged and lights keep getting shipped to me, even though I already received the lights and paid for them once. Tomorrow will be the third time I’m getting some of the same lights! I can’t even fit them all in my car to take to UPS, nor the time to deal with this right now.

ANYWAY.

So I get back, and I have dedicated one day this week to all the follow ups and writing for the ORC and the other days are split for many deliveries for other jobs and meetings with other clients. Returning random lights. Stress eating. And today I discover some mishaps with some of the lighting, one of the vanities, and some mirrors being too big. This was all before 8am, mind you.

I discovered the green and white wallpaper was put on around the vanity and not behind it, so we decided to work around the vanity. It didn’t solve my problem of how to change the faucet but hopefully when the plumber comes for the other bathrooms he can do this for me.

COMMERCIAL BREAK

NOW BACK TO OUR PROGRAM

Since I started talking about the powder room already, let’s continue with that. NOTHING had started yet until today. Remember the “before”?

Today the wallpaper is coming down.

The old wallpaper was coming off in chunks, making this a fun time. NOT.

But my guy is good, he got it down and cleaned up pretty well. The new primer will help with the future removal of the better wallpaper, should it ever need to be removed. He even put a coat of paint on the trim and ceiling.

The ceiling! OMG this color is so cool. It’s a super dark green/black color and it might be one of my new favorite colors. I can’t wait until I get over the hump of next week, when hopefully I’ve figured out the faucet situation and hopefully the wallpaper has gone up without any issues. Plus I have a craft project of sorts to do.

MEANWHILE, OVER IN THE GUEST BATHROOM

I was dying today. I met one tile guy first thing in the morning who had some fun and happy music playing from a Hispanic station. Then I thought a second guy got dropped off because the music changed to super loud, angry thrash metal. You know, the screaming at nothing but screaming so hard a vein might burst type? That. I went upstairs after awhile and saw it was still the same guy. He has quite a varied music palate. Whatever it takes for this guy to get over the hump or the slump, or whatever. Midday music was hostile but it got him cranking out the tile.

The point is, someone is in there putting up tile!! I am so happy.

As with most houses, the walls are not exactly straight. This is way harder than it looks. If you DIY tile, it can take FOREVER if you’re not a pro. And it could still end up quite crooked. Don’t mess around unless you know what you’re doing. Even if you don’t care about perfection, someone else who might buy your house someday will care. And sloppy work leads people to wonder what else was done sloppily, and the value of your home will be impacted. Do it right, people!

He should be done tiling around the tub today, and hopefully will start the floor tomorrow. I will be excited when he’s done grouting everything. That’ll be a big “over the hump”. Then the wallpaper guys need to get in there, paint everything and put up the cool wallpaper. Next, the lighting, vanity, mirrors, and plumbing fixtures have to get installed. No biggie.

THE TEEN BATHROOM

Hmm. I am a nervous wreck over this one. First, the tile work that needs to be done is the most labor intensive and time consuming of all the work in all three bathrooms. And that hasn’t even been started yet. We went from this last week:

Not over the hump in here, that’s for sure. Now to finish the floor, get the tile done, all the trim work installed, new toilet (oh yeah in the Guest Bathroom too), a custom built in, custom glass shower door, plumbing and electrical work, install vanity, mirrors, paint… I know I’m forgetting something. Or several things. I just remembered, some marble is involved.

Also, just today, the contractor did say that the glass doors can take a MONTH after they come and template. WTF. So guess what probably isn’t making the final reveal. I want to cry. Maybe eat pizza. Drink wine. Cry. Watch the Game of Thrones premier again.

SO NOT STRESSED, ARE YOU?

I’m lying. I’m stressed. To get me over the hump besides eating pizza and cake, I look at stuff to buy. I was just telling my friend about my air fryer on steroids. It’s a toaster oven/convection oven/airfryer. And it’s freaking awesome. A client bought one after hearing me blabber about it. Maybe you have been considering one, so I’m sharing some options. I have a lot of work going on this week, and more travel coming up at the end of this week and again in a few more weeks.
